On 13 April 2018, the 2018 “Fenjiu Cup” National Swimming Championships & Asian Games Trails kicking off in the Shanxi Sports Center Swimming Pool, Taiyuan, Shanxi province. 466 swimmers from 28 representative teams across the country will compete for champions during the 6-day schedule and will strive for the Asian Games. This meet is the highest level among the national swimming events in 2018 and is also a qualification trials for the 18th Jakarta Asian Games, Indonesia this year. The champions in the swimming events at this meet will directly have obtain qualifications for participating in the Asian Games.

Star focus I: Idol Sun Yang won three gold medals

In the men’s 400m freestyle final, Sun Yang won his third gold in 3 minutes 44.29 seconds in this meet.

He has already bagged two gold medals in the men’s 200m freestyle and the men’s 800m freestyle. He was very satisfied with his performance after winning the third gold. “I felt a bit tired in physical ability after 3-day games, but it is a very good workout opportunity. In view of the good performance in the high altitude, I believe that I can perform better in the plain. It is 800m above sea level after all, so I think I can improve 2.5-3 seconds at least. Under the background of the fierce competition, each small game is a workout class for me, only through this way, my physical ability and skills can be improved. In the future, there will be more swimmers with me during my training, simulating possible conditions in games and fighting with me, which will improve my performance,” he said.


Star focus II: “Prehistorical girl” Fu Yuanhui won a gold

Fu Yuanhui, who was considered to be a promising gold winner before this meet, failed to qualify for the final in the 200m backstroke astonishingly. At an interview after the game, she admitted that she had always suffered from an injury from her left shoulder. “The left hand is my power source, supporting my entire body, and my skills have to be changed due to the shoulder injury, it is hard to swim for me,” she said. The 200m backstroke is not her dominant game, but she unexpectedly declared that she would choose to retire if the injury continued. However, she won the champion in the women’s 50m backstroke final in 27.16 seconds.


Star focus III: Swimmers from Hosa team

At this meet, the provincial-level swimming teams under the title sponsorship by Hosa have also made achievements, let’s have a look:

In the men’s 50m freestyle, “William Chan of the pool” Yu Hexin from Guangdong Hosa won the title in 22.14 seconds.


In the women’s 400m medley final, Zhou Min from Shanghai Hosa won the champion in 4 minutes 43.25 seconds.

In the women’s 200m backstroke final, Peng Xuwei from Hubei Hosa won the champion in 2 minutes 07.27 seconds.

In the women’s 50m butterfly final, Wang Yichun from Shandong Hosa won the champion in 26.24 seconds.


In the men’s 200m freestyle final, 400m freestyle final and 800m freestyle final, Ji Xinjie from Shandong Hosa ranked the second place.

In the men’s 200m breaststroke final, Yan Zibei from Hubei Hosa ranked the second place.

In the men’s 200m butterfly final, Wang Zhou and Zhou Shuchang from Shanghai Hosa ranked the second and third places respectively.


In the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, Guangdong Hosa ranked the third place.

In the women’s 50m butterfly final, Lu Ying from Shanghai Hosa ranked the third place.

In the women’s 100m freestyle final, Qiu Yuhan from Liaoning Hosa ranked the third place.

In the men’s 200m individual medley final, Wang Yizhe from Shanghai Hosa ranked the third place.

In the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final, Shanghai Hosa ranked the third place.

In the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay final, Shandong Hosa ranked the third place.

Liu Xiang, “the women’s big fish of the pool”, ranked the second place by clocking 27.04 seconds in the women’s 50m backstroke final, which is only her secondary game. Her goal is to win the champion in the 50m freestyle, so as to obtain the qualification for participating in the Jakarta Asian Games. She expected to realize her dream in the Asian Games.
